The LS1 are part of an innovative project of loudspeakers including also one smaller model and two bigger ones. The LS3, the top range, will be made up of four panels with lines of vertical drivers to create the Line Source. According tothedesigners this type of reproduction is as natural and close to the real event as possible.
The innovation consists in creating products without compromises using this technology, with ribbon Tweeters and dipole transducers for the mid-high and high ranges, and cone dipole transducers for the mid-low one.
As for low range, the LS1 use woofers in air suspension inside a suitable, large volume allowing to reach the deepest frequencies. The woofer is put on outside so that the loudspeakers can be easily placed depending upon the requirements of the different spaces.
The structure of the enclosure is innovative as well, since it consists of three different parts (the base, the box of the woofer and the front housing the dipole transducers), but combined in a decoupled way through inserts of natural cork.
The details of LS system
The cabinet has been designed to be as inert as possible so that it could not interfere with the emission of the sound, despite the solicitations of the drivers. The material used is 3,5 cm MDF able to provide solidity and to reduce vibrations.
In the rear of the front panel, the structure is open, so that the acoustic short circuit of the low midrange, up to around 180 Hz, can be avoided.
The whole loudspeaker is very stable despite its single parts are elastically uncoupled in order to form a structure as little resonant as possible.
The finishing has two versions and varies exclusively in the front panel: Black Piano lacquered or Italian Vintage
The sound objectives
Naturalness and realism in the reconstruction of the sound event are the main goals of LS1 loudspeakers.
Special and high-performance ribbon transducers for the high ranges, providing a considerable transparency, a high level of introspection and a high frequency response, a structure that reduces drastically the undesired vibrations and a crossover with very mild slopes free from strong phase rotations have been used in order to reach these objectives.
Moreover, the phase and the impedance have been balanced out, where necessary, so that the amplifier be provided with a load as uniform and resistive as possible.
It has been decided to connect the drivers working at the same ranges (four tweeters and six high midranges) in series, obtaining a wide emission surface and a low excursion of the membranes with the same sound pressure.
In this way, the distortion produced by the movement of the transducers is eliminated. Furthermore, this setting provides a high value of resistance on the terminals of the loudspeakers allowing the power amplifiers to work in a linear area while spraying their energy .
The dipole system assures a definite tridimensional emission followed by a unique scenic reconstruction for its ariosity and at the same time precise for its structure. The air suspension provides a linear, articulated and natural emission. As has been done for planar transducers, also for cone ones (low midrange and woofer) the best components with the most sonic natural characteristics available on the market have been chosen.
The internal cabling is made up of top quality and suitable section silver-copper Acrolink cables, the same kind of conductors used by Blue Moon for all its innovative signal and power cables. Some professional Speakon make the signal pass to the different sections of the LS1.
The final calibration of the loudspeakers has taken place in different spaces presenting the same characteristics as the average typical home listening rooms.
Obviously, it has aimed to obtain the same good performance in all the rooms despite their different characteristics of reflection and absorption.
As resulting from the considerations above, it is evident that LS (Line Source) loudspeakers by Blue Moon are precise instruments to reproduce the sound reality that require partners of their same high quality. This is true not only for the listening chain, but also and especially for the two parameters mentioned above (environment and recordings), otherwise the general quality of the reproduction will decay.
Line Source loudspeakers (especially the biggest models) can be compared with custom-built cars: we would never dream of using low-octane petrol to get the highest performances out of them.
